Preventing Spider Bites

While some spider bites cannot be avoided (for instance, while sleeping), there are several measures you can take to reduce the risk of a spider bite.

* Always shake out your clothing before putting it on. This will protect you against any spiders that may have found a cozy home in your favorite pair of jeans.
* Shake out your shoes before putting them on, especially if they have been left outside. It is possible for spiders to crawl into your shoes and bite you unexpectedly.
* Wear gloves when handling wood or rocks. Many spiders like to hide under pieces of wood or rock, and will become defensive if their hiding place is disturbed.
* Always be careful when handling cardboard boxes. Spiders may crawl into the crevices of the box and hide. It is not a good idea to store cardboard boxes underneath your bed. This creates an optimal environment for spiders to hide comfortably
